The Williams Institute Moot Court Competition – March 14th

The Williams Institute Moot Court Competition – March 14th

The Williams Institute is seeking attorneys to judge its annual moot court competition on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at UCLA School of LawCLE credit available.

The Williams Institute Moot Court Competition is the only national moot court event dedicated to topics of sexual orientation and gender identity law. Competitors write an appellate brief on a current legal topic and argue the case before a panel of attorneys. This year’s problem will address whether the federal government can lawfully ban transgender people from serving in the U.S. military.

Volunteer judges will receive materials written by the Williams Institute to help them prepare, including a bench brief, sample questions, and summaries of the arguments. In addition, an optional problem briefing will be offered before the competition. Judges will receive up to three hours of CLE credit for participating (approval pending). Presenters will cover the legal issues raised by the problem. Breakfast, lunch, and parking will be provided on the day of the event.

If you are interested in volunteering for this year’s competition, please RSVP here.  More judges are needed for the morning rounds, so we appreciate morning sign ups if you are available.  For additional information about the competition, please click here

Please also feel encouraged to forward this information to friends or colleagues who may be interested in judging the competition. If you have any questions, please contact Giam Nguyen, Williams Institute Moot Court Competition Director, at nguyeng@law.ucla.edu.
