SCOTUS Admissions Ceremony

This landmark occasion celebrated the achievements of our members as they were sworn in, marking another step forward in increasing trans representation in the highest levels of the legal field.

NTBA Book Club: December 16th

Skrmetti Supreme Court Watch Party Today

Join TGI2S+, Trans, Gender Nonconforming/Nonbinary, Intersex, Two Spirit and gender expansive community members and advocates as we playback the December 4th oral arguments while working on a creative arts project (panels for a giant quilt that will be displayed at the National Mall in Washington D.C. during Trans Day of Visibility this coming March). We will be joined by lead attorney from the ACLU of Tennessee on U.S. v. Skrmetti Lucas Cameron-Vaughn for a Q&A unpacking the recent Supreme Court hearing.

Special Town Hall on December 5th: Advocacy, Community, and a Potential Guest Speaker!

Join us for a special Town Hall on December 5th at 5 PM PST / 8 PM EST! This event will focus on Skrmetti and letter-writing initiatives for trans individuals in prison.
We’re honored to welcome Professor Alexander Chen, Founding Director of the LGBTQ+ Advocacy Clinic at Harvard Law School, as our keynote speaker for the NTBA Town Hall. A leading expert in LGBTQ+ civil rights, Prof. Chen has dedicated his career to impactful legal advocacy, achieving groundbreaking victories that have shaped protections and rights for LGBTQ+ communities nationwide.
To bring our community together for this important event, we’ll be canceling the previously scheduled 11/15 and 12/20 sessions.

NTBA Monthly Town Hall

We’re excited to keep up the energy from last month’s “TLI Part 2” with a new monthly town hall series! This month, on September 20, from 12pm-1pm EST, we’re going to dig into some conversations that we began at Lavender Law around racial justice within the trans legal community. We want to find actionable ways to move through the profession with awareness of intersectionality and strong advocacy for those who are marginalized in multiple ways. We hope you can join us!

NTBA Virtual TLI Part 2 Event

One week after the Lavender Law Conference concludes in D.C., the National LGBTQ Bar Association and the NTBA, along with partners in the trans rights legal movement, will be hosting a virtual “TLI Part Two.” This event will allow those who were unable to attend TLI in person this year to convene virtually with trans attorneys, trans rights advocates, and some of our most highly engaged allies. We will be discussing some recommendations for the field that emerged out of the Trans Rights Convening last October in New Orleans.

One of the things we love about Pride Month is that it provides a great opportunity for intentional community-building.
To that end, NTBA is hosting another NTBA Members Pride Month Social Hour via Zoom next Thursday, June 20, from 2:30 – 4:00 PM PT / 3:30 – 5:00 PM MT / 4:30 – 6:00 PM CT / 5:30 – 7:00 PM ET to help our members across the country make connections and just chat with each other.

Creating More Welcoming Workplaces: Practical Steps Towards Gender Inclusion in the Legal Profession Panel

This panel will serve as an introduction to Creating More Welcoming Workplaces,” a guide for nonbinary legal professionals and their allies recently released by the Harvard Law School LGBTQ+ Advocacy Clinic and Beyond Binary Legal in conjunction with the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association, the National Transgender Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. Panelists will share their experiences as nonbinary attorneys and discuss strategies for inclusion at the organizational and interpersonal level that can be implemented in any legal workplace.
Attendees will learn more about the experiences of nonbinary people in legal workplace. They will leave with specific strategies on how to intentionally include nonbinary employees on an interpersonal and organizational level. Nonbinary attendees will learn self-advocacy strategies they can bring back to their workplaces.
