Kentucky Families and Civil Rights Organizations Challenge Transgender Health Care Bans at Supreme Court
On September 3, we and other civil rights groups submitted a friend-of-the court brief in support of transgender youth and their families, represented by the American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky, the National Center for Lesbian Rights, GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders, and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP. The Supreme Court will be hearing U.S. v. Skrmetti, a case challenging Tennessee’s law banning medical care for transgender youth. Any law that prohibits medication for only one group of people is discriminatory. Every family should have the freedom to love and support their children, but these bans deny that right to families of transgender youth. That’s why we’re proud to stand with Kentucky families who have been challenging a similar law in their state. As we wait for the Supreme Court to hear the case in the next few months and issue its decision next summer, we will continue to support transgender youth, their families, and medical providers. |
