| NATIONAL TRANS BAR ASSOCIATION ELECTS LEADERSHIP TEAM FOR 2022-2023 D DANGARAN AND RAFAEL LANGER-OSUNA ARE NEW CO-CHAIRS |
| A partner in big law, Rafael Langer-Osuna, and a civil rights attorney, D Dangaran, have been chosen to lead the National Trans Bar Association into the next year. |
| D Dangaran is a Movement Lawyering and Litigation Fellow at Rights Behind Bars, where they focus on bringing civil rights claims to counteract the violence and neglect that trans people face in jails, prisons, and immigration detention centers. Mx. Dangaran, the first in their family to graduate college, is a former Articles Editor of the Harvard Law Review, and did their undergraduate studies at Yale University. |
| Rafael M. Langer-Osuna is a partner at Squire Patton Boggs (US) LLP where they (1) try cases in state and federal courts for and against foreign sovereigns and (2) litigate disputes involving the internet, including data breach and data privacy matters, as well as cases arising from online defamation, the use of copyrighted materials on social media, hacking, and software licensing conflicts. As the first out non-binary big law partner, Mx. Langer-Osuna has dedicated the last few years to making space for trans and non-binary attorneys in the legal profession. |
| Upon being elected, Mx. Dangaran noted: “Each interaction I’ve had with the NTBA has replenished me and renewed my passion for my work. I have always cherished opportunities to convene with people who share some aspect of my identity. NTBA allows trans law students and lawyers to connect over and gain insights from our common lived experiences–an all-important part of sustaining ourselves in this profession in which we are a small, but increasingly visible, minority. I’m thrilled to be able to lead NTBA’s efforts in fostering opportunities for community building and advocating for NTBA members and trans issues in interactions with the rest of the legal profession alongside someone as centered and strategic as Rafael Langer-Osuna.” |
| Mx. Langer-Osuna added: “The NTBA has created a legal community for me as an openly trans lawyer. After having seen D implement the Trans Law Institute at Lavender Law this year with such a keen eye to maintaining our community’s values in both the structure and the content of the event, I am truly honored to do this work alongside someone as dedicated and visionary as D Dangaran.” |
| The Board also selected Jay Larry, a mergers and acquisitions attorney based in Houston as Secretary and Shane McCammon, a Senior Litigation associate at Orrick as Treasurer. |
| Outgoing Co-Chairs Kristen Browde and Lucas Cameron-Vaughn hailed the new leadership team. “We’ve been inspired by both Rafael and D since long before they joined our board,” said Ms. Browde. “Their energy and commitment to achieving equality in every aspect of the law and life are exactly what’s needed as our growing organization moves ahead.”The new officers assumed their positions immediately upon election.The National Trans Bar Association is a professional association of more than 500 attorneys, law students, and paralegals across the nation.For More Information Contact: info@transbar.org |
