The Office of the New York State Attorney General (OAG) is seeking an experienced litigator and advocate to serve as a Special Counsel focused on advancing LGBTQIA rights. This position will report to the Civil Rights Bureau Chief and will be located at the New York City office.

The Special Counsel will collaborate with teams across OAG to analyze federal policy and lead responses to federal actions that threaten LGBTQIA people and communities; combat discrimination against LGBTQIA New Yorkers in education, healthcare, public accommodations, housing, employment, and other contexts using federal, state, and local laws; enhance relationships with organizations serving LGBTQIA communities; and engage in and supervise affirmative and defensive litigation in federal and state courts.

We seek an Assistant Federal Defender to join our office in December 2024. The position primarily involves legal representation of indigent persons accused of federal crimes in the United States District Court. Base salary range between $96,200 and $110,200, based on a fixed scale and grounded on years of experience. DESCRIPTION

The Attorney Manager, Community Legal Clinics, will manage fixed weekly legal clinic office and walk-in hours at five Center Community Program sites. They will meet with community members seeking direct legal services, provide intakes and consultations, answer legal questions, and triage urgent issues.

Additional client needs at each site will be addressed by referring community members to other Legal Services Department projects, clinics, pro-se workshops, volunteer attorneys, and external service providers. Collaborating with Department and other Center staff, including the Volunteer Resources Department, the Attorney Manager will also manage the recruitment, training and placement of pro bono attorneys, paralegals, law students, administrative volunteers, and Lawyer Referral attorneys. Presence on- site and/or at community partner locations 4 days a week is required.

INDEMNIZACIÓN

Se trata de un puesto a tiempo completo, exento, con un salario competitivo que oscila entre $90.000-$120.000 para abogados de 3 a 5 años de licenciatura y entre $100.000-$135.000 para abogados de 6 a 10 años de licenciatura. GLAD ofrece excelentes prestaciones que incluyen tres semanas de vacaciones pagadas, seguro médico y dental individual totalmente pagado y seguro de invalidez.

DESCRIPTION

Este puesto está dentro del equipo de litigios de TLC y se centrará en investigar, desarrollar y litigar casos en nombre de personas trans y no conformes con el género.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Investigar y desarrollar nuevos casos potenciales, incluida la correspondencia y las reuniones con clientes potenciales, la realización de investigaciones, la búsqueda y revisión de registros y la redacción de cartas de demanda.
- Desarrollar la estrategia del litigio, gestionar las relaciones con los codefensores, realizar investigaciones jurídicas y redactar o editar escritos.
- Bajo supervisión, asumir la responsabilidad de todas las fases del litigio, incluida la práctica de mociones, la presentación de pruebas, los juicios, las apelaciones, las negociaciones y el seguimiento de los acuerdos.
- En caso necesario, unirse y apoyar a los equipos existentes que trabajan en litigios previamente archivados.
- Cuando sea necesario, apoyar el proyecto de servicios jurídicos de TLC, incluida la revisión de consultas, la investigación de leyes, políticas y procedimientos locales y estatales, y la elaboración de respuestas con información jurídica personalizada.
- Participar en la defensa directa de las personas criminalizadas, por ejemplo, llamando o enviando cartas de defensa a los defensores públicos o a los funcionarios de prisiones, e identificando otras soluciones creativas.
- Desarrollar y redactar recursos escritos que incluyan material para conocer sus derechos y modelos de documentos jurídicos.
- Participar en actividades educativas para miembros de la comunidad y abogados, como conferencias, cursos de formación y seminarios web.
- Apoyar el trabajo del equipo jurídico y de la organización en general.
- Otras tareas que se le asignen.
El puesto es a tiempo completo y puede incluir viajes y trabajo ocasional por las noches y los fines de semana.
