Letter From the Co-Chairs
Dear Members,
As Lucas and I prepare to turn the chair of the National Trans Bar Association over to the incoming leadership team, we’re pleased to report that the NTBA has never been stronger, never been larger, and never been more ready to face the challenges that lie ahead.
Our first-ever group admissions ceremony at the U.S. Supreme Court, at which we saw ten openly transgender attorneys admitted to the Supreme Court bar, brought unprecedented visibility into the breadth of the legal talent in our community. That we were able to do this before the full bench of the Supreme Court was the kind of “in your face” presence that says, if subtly, more clearly than any other messaging, that our equality will not and can not be avoided.
The publicity around that ceremony has resulted in a surge of interest in our work, and we welcome the new members and encourage their participation in every aspect of our effort, from mentoring programs to educational and advocacy through amicus briefs.
Lucas and I may be welcoming a new leadership team, but we aren’t going anywhere…both of us are fully committed to what we know must be a long term project: showing the world that gender is – and should always be – irrelevant in the practice of law and the administration of justice.
Warmest Regards,
Kristen Browde and Lucas Cameron-Vaughn,
Co-Chairs(outgoing) for the NTBA Board
