Advocates for Trans Equality (A4TE): General Counsel

In recent years, there’s been a surge in anti-trans bills and attacks on trans rights. With more states considering such policies, trans voices are crucial. That’s why the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) and Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund (TLDEF) are merging to form A4TE: Advocates for Trans Equality. With doubled power and resources, A4TE aims to improve trans lives nationwide through policy changes and legal action, building on NCTE and TLDEF’s 20-year legacy of advocacy, education, and litigation.

THE OPPORTUNITY

In this newly created position, the GC will serve as the primary legal advisor for A4TE, providing
guidance and oversight on all legal and compliance matters. The GC will play a crucial role in shaping the
organization’s legal strategies, managing risk, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and
regulations. The GC will serve as a key advisor on all legal, policy, operational, and administrative issues
– including labor and labor relations – while providing support for governance and tax matters.

● Provide legal guidance and support to senior management on strategic matters such as contracts,
ethics, litigation, compliance, and risk;

COMPENSATION

A4TE is offering an attractive and comprehensive compensation package for this position, including a
salary range of $160,000 – $180,000.

Staff Attorney, HIV/LGBTQ Advocacy: Legal Services NYC

THE OPPORTUNITY

Manhattan Legal Services is seeking a staff attorney to join our HIV/LGBTQ Advocacy Unit. The HIV/LGBTQ Advocacy Unit provides comprehensive civil legal services to people living with HIV and to low-income LGBTQ New Yorkers. The Unit provides representation in a broad range of civil legal issues.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The staff attorney will be responsible for litigation, advocacy, community outreach, and education throughout Manhattan and sometimes in other boroughs when collaborating with our community partners. The attorney will focus on litigating issues that particularly impact queer and trans-New Yorkers and PLWHA, including discrimination in housing, employment, and in public accommodations. The attorney will also contribute to developing a practice to support TGNC folks who are denied healthcare coverage for gender-affirming care. There is a community outreach component to the work, including doing client intake at regular outreach clinics, sometimes after-hours; establishing relationships with community-based organizations that serve PLWHA and LGBTQ populations, including attending community-centered meetings and events after-hours and on weekends; and representing clients in a number of courts and administrative fora.

COMPENSATION

Salary and benefits are determined by the LSNYC Collective Bargaining Agreement.

THE OPPORTUNITY
LDF seeks an experienced Senior Policy Counsel/Associate to join its policy team to advance its reform work in a full range of legislative and policy initiatives. A background in the areas of economic justice or education are preferred.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Global Advocacy Department, the Global Advocacy Adviser in Washington DC, will play an important role in engaging the US government in support of our global advocacy agenda, including building political will to advance SRHR in multilateral spaces. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Create responsive strategies to US legislative and other policy developments that could impact the Center’s priorities around the world or at the UN;
Providing legal expertise to federal agencies, Hill and coalition members in coordination with the US Federal team regarding key policy priorities including recommending policy positions;
Collaborating cross-departmentally to craft and execute foreign policy positions;
Represent the Center in USG agency preparatory meetings for UN processes, as requested;
In collaboration with GA team, build relationships at USUN in both Geneva and New York to influence US positioning and negotiations in UN processes;
Provide expertise on the human rights impacts of the GGR, Helms and other US foreign policies with external audiences;

Los Angeles LGBT Center: Attorney, Transgender Rights

The Legal Services Department provides trauma-informed and client-centered holistic services, including consultations, representation, legal advocacy and safety planning to members of the LGBTQI+ communities, with a focus on serving transgender, non-binary and intersex adults, immigrants at-risk of deportation, and youth and seniors at risk of homelessness.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Attorney, Transgender Rights, based at the Trans Wellness Center, will meet with transgender, non-binary and intersex community members seeking direct legal services, provide intakes and consultations, provide legal advice, answer questions, and triage urgent issues. The Attorney will coordinate/unify/expand all Trans legal services at the Center, including but not limited to name and gender marker changes, by collaborating with the 4 projects of the Legal Services Department and all other Center projects providing Trans legal services through internal and external service providers; this includes all volunteer attorneys, clinics and pro-se workshops. The Legal Services Project Senior Attorney will take the lead managing TLC’s Legal Services Project. Inner City Law Center (ICLC) – Staff Attorney

ICLC seeks a dynamic and talented Staff Attorney to join our new Bringing Families Home Project. This Staff Attorney will work with a team that is serving clients who are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness and receiving child welfare services. Working in partnership with homeless services, other community service providers, and the project funder, the Staff Attorney will provide holistic legal services to tackle barriers to our clients becoming and staying housed and related barriers that impact family stability.

National Health Law Program (NHeLP) – Reproductive & Sexual Health Attorney or Policy Analyst

The National Health Law Program (NHeLP) are seeking a full time, experienced Attorney or Policy Analyst for our Washington DC office. The position will involve a broad range of advocacy on Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and other low-income health care programs, primarily through a reproductive health lens. The ideal candidate will have working knowledge of the Medicaid program at the national or state level and have experience as a reproductive and sexual health advocate.

COMPENSATION

Competitive with other public interest organizations and commensurate with experience, in accordance with NHeLP’s pay scale. For example, for an attorney with 5 years’ legal experience, the starting salary is $91,934. For an attorney with 6 years’ legal experience, the starting salary is $97,496. For an attorney with 7 years’ legal experience, the starting salary is $102,770.

Idealist – Staff Attorney for LGBTQ and HIV Advocacy Project

Brooklyn Legal Services seeks a staff attorney for our LGBTQ & HIV Advocacy Project. The LGBTQ & HIV Advocacy Project is a general practice unit designed to provide comprehensive legal services in a single location for people living with HIV/AIDS and the LGBTQ community. The staff attorney will be responsible for litigation, advocacy, community outreach, and education throughout Brooklyn and sometimes in other boroughs when collaborating with our community partners.

There is a significant community outreach component to the work, including client intake at regular outreach clinics, sometimes after-hours; establishing relationships with community-based organizations and governmental entities that serve PLWHA and LGBTQ populations, including attending community-centered meetings and events after-hours and on weekends; and representing clients in a number of courts and administrative fora, primarily Housing Court, NY Supreme Court, Social Security hearings, and the Commission on Human Rights. Project staff attorneys regularly make home and hospital visits to meet with clients.

The Los Angeles LGBT Center – Attorney Manager- Community Legal Clinics

The Los Angeles LGBT Center’s is hiring an Attorney Manager of Community Legal Clinics.

During fixed weekly legal clinic office and walk-in hours at each of the 5 Center sites referenced above, the Attorney Manager, Community Legal Clinics, will meet with community members seeking direct legal services. The Attorney Manager will provide intakes and/or consultations; identify and triage legal and other urgent issues; answer legal questions; assist community members in accessing other Legal Services Department projects, clinics, pro-se workshops, and volunteer attorneys; and make referrals to other service providers inside and outside the Center.

The Attorney Manager will also provide direct oversight and development of the legal clinic office and walk-in hours at each location and remotely, with the focus being on the development of an increased capacity to provide additional legal services that are directly responsive to the current community needs at each site. Important collaborations include working with the Legal Services Operations Manager, who will allocate 40 % of their time to assist the Attorney Manager; the Legal Services Director, who will provide ongoing supervision and mentoring; staff from each project, who will have designated hours in which they provide on-call expertise; and the Volunteer Resources Department.

The Coalition For The Homeless is currently in the process of increasing and restructuring its Advocacy Department and rebuilding its leadership.
